We are proud to announce Ben. E. Keith has purchased all assets of Florida Food Service, Inc. Founded in 1948, Florida Food Service is headquartered in Gainesville, FL., and serves customers in Northern and Central Florida and Georgia. This acquisition will create the ninth division of Ben E. Keith Foods across 15 states.

Like Ben E. Keith Foods, Florida Food Service is a family-owned, family-run business with a rich history and culture. As a fellow UniPro member, they offer a diverse portfolio of quality products and have been focused on providing unmatched service to their customers and community for 73 years. Our organizations share many core values, including similar visions and missions.

Ben E. Keith Foods will retain all current employees. Marco DiGiosia, a 25 year veteran of Ben E. Keith Foods, has been named General Manager. Marco has relocated to Gainesville and assumed his role effective immediately. Former Florida Food Service President Joel Islam will continue with the company as Assistant General Manager.

As we begin our 116th year, we are excited to welcome the Florida Food Service employees into our organization and to continue our expansion across the Southeast, serving new and existing customers and providing additional opportunities for our employees and partners.

The Southeast Division of Ben E. Keith was established upon the acquisition of Kelley Foods in 2016. In January 2022, Ben E. Keith Foods, Southeast Division relocated to their newly constructed facility located in New Brockton, AL. The New Brockton facility is 421,380 square feet with the capabilities of expanding to just over one million square feet. The warehouse has 53 dock doors with just over 61,000 square feet of dock space for efficient shipping and receiving of product. It also includes the latest innovative robotic system called Dematic Multi-Shuttles or DMS for short, which will allow the division to stock over 12,500 unique items in addition to the 16,099 existing pick locations housing routinely shipped items. The Southeast Division is proud to serve the entire state of Alabama, Eastern Mississippi, Western Georgia and the Florida Panhandle.

The Ben E. Keith Mid-South Division was formerly known as the Dillaha Fruit Company, which was purchased in 1973 from Theo A. Dillaha, which had operated in the downtown Little Rock area for over 44 years. Immediately after the purchase, Ben E. Keith began construction on a new, larger facility near the new Little Rock River port area. The company moved into their new facility in 1974 and continued to operate as the Dillaha Fruit Company for the next five years, at which time they officially became known as Ben E. Keith Arkansas. Over the next 33 years Ben E. Keith Arkansas continued to grow through two more acquisitions adding to the Ben E. Keith’s portfolio of goods offered to its customers. In 2002, Ben E. Keith expanded into a newly reconstructed facility with approximately 50 trained sales personnel facilitating sales in street, national accounts and healthcare. In 2015 the Mid-South Division broke ground on their new 420,000 square foot facility in North Little Rock. In 2018 the division relocated to its new state-of-the-art facility which covers the entire state of Arkansas and portions of Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Ben E. Keith Foods was introduced to Oklahoma in December 1983 with the purchase of the Johnston Fruit Company. Three years later, the Collin-Dietz-Morris Company was acquired and both companies were placed under the Ben E. Keith banner and started to grow the business in Oklahoma.The Oklahoma Division of Ben E. Keith Foods now services accounts in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. Ben E. Keith Foods, Oklahoma moved from its original distribution center at 316 South Blackwelder in Oklahoma City to the new Edmond location at 14200 North Santa Fe Avenue in January 2006. The recently expanded state-of-the-art facility totals over 476,456 square feet on 88 acres of land. The warehouse contains 53 dock doors with product stored in eight different temperature zones. The Oklahoma division currently has over 600 employees and includes an inventory of over 17,000 items.

The Albuquerque Division of Ben E. Keith was founded in 1991 and has been operating out of our Broadway location since 1999. Our new site, which quadruples the size of our previous square footage, is 272,572 square feet, with extra space to allow us to expand our warehouse when needed. The new facility has 40 total dock doors to speed up loading and unloading trucks, for quicker turns and increased ability to serve our customers quickly. It includes the latest innovative features such as Dematic Multi-Shuttles, which will allow us to stock over 12,500 unique items. We also have state-of-the-art refrigeration and security systems, LED lighting, a modern test kitchen, and training center. Ben E. Keith Foods is honored to have the opportunity to serve the communities of the Southwest and support the rich culinary traditions so unique to this part of the country.

Ben E. Keith West Texas was originally the Panhandle Fruit Company, founded by Gus Roberts in 1937. The company sold to Ben E. Keith Foods in 1968 and the name was officially changed to Ben E. Keith - Amarillo in 1984. Alvie Butler became General Manager in 1979, and the current GM, Jeff Yarber, assumed the position of General Manager in 1999 upon Alvie’s death. The Amarillo Division (Panhandle Fruit Co.) moved from its first location at 711 S. Grant to its location at 2100 Spruce St. in June 1971. The new building totaled 40,000 square feet. The Amarillo Branch completed its next expansion in 1994 increasing the size to about 61,000 square feet. On December 15, 2006, the Amarillo Branch moved into their new state-of-the-art facility totaling 307,704 square feet and expandable to just under one million square feet.

The Ben E. Keith-Fort Worth Division (DFW) is the flagship distribution center for the company. The facility was built in 2000 and expanded in 2019 adding 182,405 square feet to its dry warehouse portion, for a total of 770,781 square feet. The facility has 98 dock doors, 51 on the refrigerated side and 47 on the dry side. It is a shipping base to 175+ DSRs serving approximately 9,500 customers, most within a range of 250 miles. This facility has seven environmental zones and a dedicated section for national account selection. The freezer and dry sections include seven very narrow aisles (VNA) consisting of floating and fixed storage locations. The warehouse is stocked with over 26,000 SKUs and is staffed with 840 associates. Product is slotted by several criteria including crushability, stackability and velocity. Three Dematic Multi-Shuttles will be installed with the new expansion (2 dry & 1 freezer)

Keith Foods is proudly shipping product from our newly completed distribution center located in Missouri City.  This new facility services the Greater Houston area, southeast Texas, and Southern Louisiana food service markets.  This facility boasts four automated storage and retrieval systems, eight temperature controlled warehouse zones, and the latest innovations in technology.  The branch office is a LEEDS Gold building.  The delivery fleet and material handling equipment is all newly purchased.  Over 17,000 items are available to our customers from this distribution center fulfilling any foodservice operator’s needs.  We are working as one and proud to serve our customers.
