Position Summary and Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this position is to operate a packing machine, hand pack finished products, box and prep for shipping.

  • Set-up, tear-down, adjusts, monitors, and performs general operating maintenance on pack machines.
  • Operation of the packaging equipment, load finished product into machine, box, label, and stack boxes on pallets to prep for shipping.
  • Responsible for checking packaging and product quality. Inspect packages for defects, seal integrity, pack quality to prevent leakers in the finished goods case. Check package weights, julian dates, and product codes.
  • Report any issues to supervisor and FSQA Team.
  • As production demand varies, all Machine Operators are expected to have hour and day flexibility.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Partner with supervisor and FSQA team on product quality issues.
  • Maintain all work surfaces, tools, and equipment clean and sanitized.
  • Always follow the USDA, HACCP, SSOP, food and employee safety policies, rules and regulations.
  • Always follow OSHA and the Ben E. Keith employee safety policy, rules and regulations such as Lock Out Tag Out.
  • Wear required protective and food safety equipment at all times while in the production area.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • 3-6 months of operating a machine in a high-speed production environment.
  • 3-6 months setting up, breaking down, and performing daily operating maintenance on pack machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret packaging specifications.
  • Basic understanding of machine functions and pre-operation inspections; stop, start, speed adjustments.
  • Experience with various cuts of meat and pork desired, but not required.
  • Familiarity with pallet jack, forklift, or other industrial vehicles. 
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Self-Starter.
  • Basic math knowledge.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand on your feet all day and work in a cold (32-40º) environment.
