Gordon Biersch

A match made in beer heaven.

Come back with us for a moment to 1987. Dan Gordon is one of the most sought-after brewers in the country. Dean Biersch, an experienced restaurateur and beer lover, is searching for a partner to help open a brewery restaurant. A mutual friend arranges a meeting. They sit down. Have a few beers. And the rest, as they say, is beer history.

It’s the American Dream: Get married. Buy a house. Open a brewery.

From the get-go, Dan and Dean had a clear vision of what they wanted. A monument to beer. A place where beer lovers could come drink freshly brewed beer and have a great meal as well.

As far as the beer went, they would serve only authentic German-style lagers in the tradition of the ones Dan brewed while attending Weihenstephan-the most renowned brewing school in the world.

They would brew with only the finest ingredients. Hallertauer hops. Two row barley. And a special yeast strain imported directly from Germany.

They’d brew it fresh and serve it cold. And what do you know, it worked.

Together Dan and Dean opened the first Gordon Biersch brewery restaurant in Palo Alto in 1988. Since then, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants have opened across the United States, with a recent opening of a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan. Gordon Biersch serves authentic German style beers. The Gordon Biersch menu consists of appetizers and entrees influenced by a variety of cuisines, all designed to complement Dan’s signature lager beer.

In 1997 Gordon Biersch opened a state of the art brewery and bottling facility in San Jose, CA. This brewery allows Dan Gordon to brew his signature beers for sale all over the United
States. We offer tours of our brewery based on appointment.

Blonde Bock

Blonde Bock is a medium hopped beer with a rich, malty flavor. Made popular in the early 1600s, bock beers were originally brewed by monks to minimize hunger pangs during fasting periods. Most Bock beers are dark in color. Our Gordon Biersch Blonde Bock is golden with a rich creamy head.

Marzen

Our most popular beer, Marzen is a smooth, mildly sweet, auburn colored lager. This beer originates from Bavaria where it was brewed in March (“Marzen” in German) and stored in caves to be enjoyed during warmer weather. At the end of September, any remaining kegs of Marzen were consumed during the two week celebration which became known as Oktoberfest.

Hefeweizen

Gordon Biersch brews a true Bavarian Hefeweizen. The flavor has hints of clove, bubble gum and banana. True to the name and style, our Hefeweizen is unfiltered with the yeast still present. The body is crisp and effervescent. This beer is brewed with 55% malted wheat and 45% malted barley. Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen is naturally carbonated as are all Gordon Biersch Beers.
