The Beer of Barcelona

Date: November 7, 2007

Beginning November 12, residents in Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, Frisco, Abilene, Llano, Palestine, Waco and 60 counties throughout Texas will be able to purchase Estrella Damm, known as the “Beer of Barcelona” in Spain. Ben E. Keith Company is distributing the beer to restaurants, bars and stores. Since 1876 when August Kunstman Damm arrived in Barcelona from Alsace, France, Estrella Damm has been brewed as a premium quality beer in Barcelona.

Estella means “star” in Spanish, and as its name suggests, it has become a star to the people of Barcelona. It has evolved with the city reflecting its character- sophisticated and passionate yet at the same time relaxed and welcoming. Committed to “the good life,” Estrella Damm is popular in Spain’s nightlife scene and beaches. Estella Damm is also a primary sponsor of major sports teams and events, such as the 32nd America’s Cup Team New Zealand in Valencia, Spain, and the FC Barcelona Soccer Team.

Estrella Damm hopes to continue this popularity in the United States, following success across Europe and Asia. This beer has been recognized worldwide for its superior taste as a two-time Gold Medal Winner of the World Beer Championship (2004, 1998). The pale lager is smooth and rich in flavor and has 4.4% alcohol content.

In addition to Estrella Damm, Ben E. Keith Company has continued to enhance its portfolio of specialty and import beers this year by securing the distribution rights to Barons Brewing of Australia, a premium craft/ import line from Sydney, Australia; Tona Cerveza, the smooth premium lager from Nicaragua; and Trumer Pils, the traditional European pilsner.
